GETTING NATURAL GAS SERVICE TO YOUR HOME, BUSINESS, OR DEVELOPMENT

If you do not currently have natural gas service to your home or business or are interested in having natural gas mainlines extended to a new development, please use the “Contact Us” form below or call 208-377-6408 (Treasure Valley), or Toll free; 1-800-548-3679. Please have the following information ready and our agent will connect you with an Energy Service Representative in one of our District Offices.

Helpful Information:

  • Contact information (Name, phone #, email, physical address)
  • Type of Gas equipment you are considering installing.
  • Name of Heating contractor you are working with (if applicable)

WHAT TO EXPECT:

A representative will contact you to discuss the scope of the project and determine the cost to extend underground pipeline to your property.  IGC’s Main and Service tariff, on file with the IPUC, determines the investment allowance. If the cost of the project is more than we are allowed to invest, you will be provided a quote of the difference. Once a service agreement has been signed by you and any applicable costs collected, your work order is scheduled for installation by our contractor.  Please note that lead times can vary depending on the time of year; from 2-6 weeks for a service line and 4-10 weeks for a main line extension.

Thank you for considering natural gas for your energy needs. We look forward to serving you.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

It depends on how much underground pipe needs to be installed to serve your property, the natural gas appliances you are installing, and other factors. New construction homes within subdivisions may have little or no cost.

Installation can often be done with minimal impact on your lawn or property. Our construction crews are very sensitive to your property and are careful to return the site to its original condition.

No. You will need to contact an HVAC dealer contractor to discuss equipment options, installation, and costs as well as potential gas meter locations.

Many propane appliances can easily be converted at a low cost. Consult your HVAC contractor about converting your propane appliances to natural gas.

The location of your gas meter will depend on many factors/features of your home. Please review our Meter Location Guidelines to better understand locations that are possible. If there is an existing gas stub on your property line, the meter will be designated on the same side.

PLEASE NOTE: If your property is in a town/county designated as a heavy snow area, the meter must be protected from heavy snow or ice accumulation. Refer to the meter location guidelines link above for more information.

Lead times for installation vary throughout the year and are often longer as cold weather approaches. If you are considering making the switch within the next 6 months, it’s best to contact us soon. Once your gas line is installed, you should have it activated and a meter set within 6 months.
